The boy Kaszek is guardian of the city of Ayul–a city built deep within a rocky fastness, ancient home of the Last People and sanctuary from the chaos of the legendary “world beyond.” Blessed with strength and trained for violence, his duty is to protect Ayul and carry the burdens others are forbidden to touch.
Release Schedule Update
For the remainder of issue 7 we are changing our release schedule. Instead of uploading a new page every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, the schedule is changing to every Monday and Friday.
In order to maintain the high standards we set for the art, we need to take some additional time to ensure the final issue of the comic lives up to conclusion of Kaszek’s journey. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your continued support!
Two Weeks Down!
We just wrapped up our second week of the comic and released my favorite page from the first issue. Today we got a glimpse at Kaszek’s home: the city of Ayul (eye-OOL). We did a ton of concept sketches and put a lot of thought into how an underground society would function. How do they live without a source of wood, how do they tell time, and a myriad of other questions which we will possibly explore in future updates.
Today’s Patreon update is free to the public and shows some designs of Ayul done by Louis Sollune. If you’re a Patron, not to worry, we have some full color concept art of Ayul which will follow shortly in another update.
Thanks for sticking around with us. Next week, we’ll learn what Kaszek’s quest is all about and discover his purpose.
The Journey Begins
Violet Dawn is an ongoing digital-first comic series from WayWalker Studios, telling the epic story of the realm of Avadnu. The Last People fled the legendary “world beyond” long ago; now, a young guardian leaves the only home he knows and discovers the true nature of an alien and wondrous land. The webcomic iteration is free to read and normally updates Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; all told, you’ll see one 10-page issue about every month for the length of our first storyline, “Exile.”
This is a project we’ve been working on for a while! We’re proud of the team we’ve assembled and the vision we’re presenting. There are a lot of fantasy comics out there, particularly in digital format–but we hope that in both style and substance we can offer something new. Something novel. Something that feels, well–like we said above, “alien and wondrous.”
Somewhere down the line, we’ll go more into why we chose this format (the team has created both digital and print comics before–with Violet Dawn, we’re going this route for a mix of creative and business reasons). If you’re interested in purchasing digital copies of the comic for your e-reader, we’ll have more on that soon, too; and we encourage folks to take a glance at our Patreon if you prefer to donate monthly. We’re going to need all the support we can get.
But! All that’s for the future. Right now we’re up and posting pages and just seeing what works. In the tech world, they call this a “soft launch”–we’re building up our readership even as we adjust things here and there.
If we’re lucky, it’ll be a long time before things stop changing entirely. Change is healthy. And Violet Dawn is all about change.
